Staff Spotlight: Jeff Quirk

Jeff Quirk joined us at ³ÉÈ˶ÌƬ's this year as a Mathematics Teacher. In a recent interview, we learned more about Jeff, both in and out of the classroom. Thanks for sharing a little more about yourself with the community Jeff!

What made you want to come to work at ³ÉÈ˶ÌƬ’s?

My kids come to school here, and it’s an Anglican school and I’m English, so a home from home you might say…..

What is it about teaching that drew you in?

Helping kids out in a positive and fun way, and to build some great memories.

What was your path to becoming a teacher?

Degree, PhD, 15 years of working in working in advisory and business consultancy services, and the birth of my first child making me re-evaluate my priorities.

Any accomplishments you are proud of as a teacher or outside of teaching?

As a Teacher, being a Year 12 Coordinator at my previous school, and helping students outside of academic life, organising the school ball, and the graduation night, all whilst doing a teaching role. Outside of teaching, becoming a parent.

How would you describe yourself as a teacher?

I have high expectations for my students, but try my best to help kids who struggle with the subject.

What are your hobbies outside of teaching?

Playing soccer, running, and trying my best to be a good Dad.

What’s your favourite travel location you’ve been to and where do you want to go next?

Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean, next Norway/Canada/Iceland to see the Northern Lights.

What’s your favourite indoor and outdoor activity?

Indoor eating, outdoor more eating.

What’s on your bucket list?

Help my ATAR students get through this year, and strive that every student I teach can reach their potential.

What do you love about working at ³ÉÈ˶ÌƬ’s?

Students are very polite, sociable and good natured – plenty of students here who will do somebody a good turn. The pumpkin soup from the canteen is always a delight too.

It was great getting to know you Jeff!
