Students Make a Remarkable Impact
Our Year 11 students have demonstrated exceptional compassion and dedication by participating in the Anglicare Schools Sleepout, raising an impressive $12,283 for Anglicare WA. This outstanding total includes funds from various school events, including the ³ΙΘΛΆΜΖ¬'s Day Sausage Sizzle and the Hoodies for Homeless fundraising day, as well as the students' personal efforts.
A Night of Challenges and Insights
Twenty-seven of our Year 11 students joined peers from other schools at Optus Stadium for an unforgettable night. They stepped out of their comfort zones, spending the night on concrete and participating in activities that simulated the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness. This immersive experience provided valuable insights into the daily struggles many Australians endure.
The evening began with a warm pumpkin soup and bread roll, but the real challenge came when it was time to sleep. Armed with cardboard boxes and sleeping bags, students settled in for a night disrupted by flashing lights, random alarms, and the sounds of their fellow participants. As one might expect, the bright smiles from the previous evening were somewhat dimmed by Saturday morning!
A Collective Effort for Change
The Anglicare Schools Sleepout saw participation from 520 students across 20 different schools, including two schools joining remotely from Esperance and Exmouth. Together, they raised an astounding $210,000, significantly surpassing last year's total. This collective effort not only raised funds for vital services but also inspired many future change-makers.
Gratitude and Recognition
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Mrs Parsons, Mrs Wood, and Mr Teo for sacrificing their Friday night and sleep to support our Year 11 Anglicare Ambassadors. Their dedication and support were invaluable to the success of this event.
The Anglicare Schools Sleepout has become an important annual event, with this year marking the sixth consecutive year of participation for some schools. It serves as a key fundraiser for Street Connect, a service supporting young people aged 15-26 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Through their participation, our students have not only raised funds but also gained a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding homelessness. They have truly embodied the spirit of compassion and community service, making ³ΙΘΛΆΜΖ¬'s proud.
